A seventeen-year-old boy filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Delhi High Court asking permission to donate his liver to his ailing father.
Justice Rekha Palli issued notice to the Delhi Government and the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) over the petition filed .
The minor through his mother, challenged an Order passed by the hospital which dismissed his application for donating part of his liver to his ailing father.
The minor’s father is suffering from severe liver failure and both his mother and elder brother cannot donate their part of liver due to some medical conditions and the petitioner being a minor is not allowed to do so.
According to the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Rules 2014 minors are not allowed to donate any living organ or tissue.
