Khar murder case: Accused’s mother says son was assaulted

Bharti Jogdhankar, mother of Shree Jogdhankar- prime accused in the murder case at Khar, has alleged in a written statement to the police commissioner that the severity of injuries suffered by Shree suggest that he was assaulted by some other individual.

Shree Jogdhankar has been accused of the murder of Jhanvi Kukreja along with co-accused Diya Padalkar, at a New Year’s party where a fight took place, following which the duo assaulted Kukreja, and dragged her down the stairs from the fifth floor to the second floor.

Bharti has demanded for her statement to be recorded by the police, given the possibility of more people being involved in the incident. Khar police had filed a charge sheet against Jogdhankar and co-accused Diya Padalkar before a magistrate court in the first week of April.

The police authorities have categorically dismissed Bharti’s allegations, contending that they have sufficient evidence to indicate Jogdhankar’s involvement in the murder.

Jogdhankar’s medical reports suggested that he had suffered three rib fractures besides laceration on the back of his head, abrasions on the back, swelling on the right wrist, and abrasions on right elbow and right leg.

Mahesh Vaswani, counsel appearing on behalf of the accused, stated that, “Bharti’s contention is that neither Kukreja nor Padalkar could have caused such grave injuries and it’s impossible for Shree to have self-inflicted deep gashes on his back or behind his head. This indicates someone else was involved in the assault.”

A senior police officer had to say in this matter, “If someone had assaulted Shree, he would have been captured by the society’s surveillance cameras either entering or exiting the premises,”

The officer also added, Shree has been lying all along. He had told a hospital doctor that the injuries were sustained in an accident at Mahim. His mother now claims Shree never spoke to the doctor, but his friend did. But we have evidence of him speaking to the doctor.”
