Advocate VK Biju raised an urgent mentioning related to the stray dog peril in Kerala to the Chief Justice of India.
The SC on Monday agreed to record the cases on September 9 pertaining to the stray dog menace.
He remarked that, “Kerala has become dogs own country from gods own country”.
He accentuated an incident where a 2-year-old girl is battling for life after being attacked by a rabid dog, despite taking an anti-rabies vaccine.
A case in 2016 where Justice Siri Jagan commission submitted a report to the SC which stated that the “excessive” stray canine population will continue to pose a “very serious threat” to public safety unless brought down to a “manageable level” and wanted to deal with compensation for the victims.
People like daily wagers, children, women and poor people are being affected the most, the counsel stated.
He presented a shocking figure of 10 lakh dog bites in 5 years and requested the present status of compensation from the Siri Jagan Commission.
CJI Lalit agreed to list the batch of cases on September 9.
