While dealing with the Kochi Missing Sisters Case, an issue that the Kerala High Court had initiated by its own on basis of a newspaper article, heard a plea regarding the Assistant Sub Inspector demanding Bribe of Rs. 5 Lakh to release the Sisters who were recently rescued from Delhi.
Justice Devan Ramchandra said that “He could not accept the allegations to be baseless and he was of the view that an inquiry and investigation must be conducted , as the allegations of bribery cannot be proven through substantial evidence rather it can be proven only through circumstantial evidence.”
The Delhi based couple had to pay for the travel, accommodation and commuting fare of all the five cops who had gone to rescue the girls from the National Capital, which amounted to a total of Rs. 1 Lakh, told the Legal Aid lawyer representing the couple.
On coming back to Kochi the cops also arrested the Sons of the couple under the false pretext of the Sons Sexually Abusing the Daughters .
The court asked the Directorate General of Prosecution (DGP) that whether the controlling authorities had prior knowledge about the 5 Officers going to Delhi, to which an affirmative answer came out. But the authorities have remained silent as to whether they had prior knowledge on how the means of travel was arranged.
The DGP meanwhile has told the court that disciplinary action has been initiated against the concerned Police Officials .
