The Kerala High Court has refused to issue directions to the Lakshadweep Administration for the supply of the additional food and other provisions during the pandemic period.
The division bench comprising of Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chaly has ensured food security in the Islands in satisfaction with the report filed by the Lakshadweep Administration.
In regard to the needy residents of Lakshwadeep Island, the petition was filed by a resident of Amini Island sought for Administration’s response on proving necessary food kits and other necessary provisions till the lockdown remains.
In the petition, it was stated that most of the daily wage earners lost their jobs in the pandemic, with no means of earning a living. Claiming poverty in the Islands, the petitioner pleaded the Court for Administrative support for people.
Presenting various reports, Senior Central Government Counsel, S Manu, appearing for the Administration submitted that, island-wise food distribution along with Food Security Allowance is provided to the Islanders.
The Counsel added that education and health services are provided free on the islands. Also, the electricity rate is subsidized.
The division bench dismissed the petition, alleging false allegations in the petition against Lakshadweep Administration as an attempt to mislead the Court. The Court also stated that no further directions for Administration are required.
