The Single Judge Bench of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas observed that patriarchal mindsets of men are changing the women are getting empowered in our country.
“Crime against women are certainly increasing. We have always been looking at (such cases) with a patriarchal eye, as a patriarchal society. But it is changing and it is time to change also. Even men’s attitude is changing,” the judge orally remarked.
“Now, women are no longer very worried about speaking in public about their sexual escapades. Every other day we find women saying that. They have become empowered. They are strong about such things,” Justice Thomas said.
The Court was hearing the matter of anticipatory bail filed by the Actor Vijay Babu over alleged rape case filed against him by a new actress.
The Advocate representing the actor in the case submitted that it was an attempt to blackmail him.
The Advocate representing complainant pointed out that actor agreed to had sexual intercourse with her and highlighted the fact that complainant is just a debutant in the industry but actor is a big name who can suppress her with his power.
The Advocate argued that due to the young age and unmarried status of complainant she is suffering from social exclusion. Complainant submitted the evidence need to be admitted by the Court.
In #MeToo Campaign which was flooded over the social media, complainant revealed the incident after which the case was registered against actor.
Actor also streamed live on facebook and denied the allegations put on him by the de facto complainant and revealed her identity over internet. This leads him into another FIR lodged against him under Section 288A of IPC for revealing the identity of the victim.
The anticipatory plea in this case was closed but observed that the offence is bailable. The next hearing will be on June 17 till then his interim bail is extended by the Court.
