The Kerala High Court on Thursday directed immediate repair of broken roads in the State.
A Bench of Justice Devan Ramachandran passed the Notification while critically condemning the engineers who were involved in repairing the broken roads last year on the Court’s Order.
Further Justice Devan stated “Can engineers not see these themselves when they pass by? Will they take action only if someone falls and dies? Do you not feel shame seeing and hearing this? Because I certainly feel ashamed having to say this, Engineers who are not able to build good roads should resign from their posts.”
Furthermore, the Court highlighted the Statutory and Constitutional Duties of administrators and stakeholders and observed that they cannot have a neglecting behaviour as the State cannot afford to repair roads frequently.
The Court ordered the Director of Public Works Department (PWD), Cochin Smart Mission Ltd (CSML), Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA), Director of Urban Affairs, and Director of Panchayats to review the roads in the State and analyse directives to fix them.
The Order noted that the personal responsibility of the officials concerned in connection to the roads in disrepair will be pronounced and fixed by the Court if so necessary as the Court had fixed responsibility on the officials to prevent potholes on roads and not solely repair them.
