The Karnataka High Court has issued an interim order in a plea that restrained the ‘Wild Karnataka’ Documentary makers to make any proceeds in the film till August 3.
The film is of 52 minutes duration, a natural memoir reflecting the rich biodiversity of the Karnataka State.
The interim order was passed by the division bench comprising of Chief Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Suraj Govindaraj in a petition filed by Ravindra N Redkar and Ullash Kumar RK.
The petition alleged commercialisation of the film that has deprived the muse of the State’s natural history. They also claimed the Karnataka Forest Department (KFD) deprivation to its rightful share of proceeds.
The petitioners seek to restrain in perpetuity the respondents from dealing with the film in any way, stating in the plea that, “The Public Exchequer has been cheated and deprived of Crores of Rupees worth of revenue and furthermore, the Tiger Foundations/P.A.D.F.s have been deprived of donations which would have legitimately served the cause of conservation, especially in the current pandemic when the need to protect our natural resources and maintain a clean and healthy environment is highlighted.”
The Court has issued notices to the respondents returnable on August 3.
