The Karnataka High Court has given approval to a woman lawyer to sit for the judicial services main examination in her hometown of Mangaluru, considering her fragile health condition during the eighth month of pregnancy.
The unique permission was granted as per a press note released on November 17, allowing the lawyer to take the mains exam at the District Court in Mangaluru rather than the originally designated location in Bengaluru, the capital city.
Scheduled for November 18 and 19 in Bengaluru, the mains exam is part of the ongoing direct recruitment initiative to fill 57 vacancies in civil judge positions.
Advocate Nethravathi, after qualifying the preliminary examinations held on July 27, submitted a request to the High Court seeking permission to appear for the mains exam from Mangaluru. Citing her delicate health condition at eight and a half months pregnant, she expressed the difficulty of traveling to Bengaluru for the exam.
A committee comprising Justices PS Dinesh Kumar, K Somashekar, S Sunil Dutt Yadav, Ashok S Kinagi, and M Nagaprasanna, established by the High Court, deliberated on the matter and approved the woman’s request. Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale also endorsed the committee’s decision.
In response to the exceptional approval, the Registrar General of the High Court has designated a lady judicial officer to serve as an observer, overseeing the main examination at the District Court in Mangaluru.
The Principal District and Sessions Judge in Mangaluru have been instructed to make necessary medical arrangements at the examination center to address any potential emergencies.
