Kangana Ranaut, a Bollywood actress, has filed a Counter-complaint against Lyricist Javed Akhtar, accusing him of Extortion and Criminal Intimidation and requesting that the case be transferred to another Magistrate.
On Monday, Ranaut appeared before Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate RR Khan, before whom proceedings in the Defamation complaint filed by Javed Akhtar were heard.
Ranaut’s Counsel, Rizwan Siddiquee, argued that she had been called to the Court without any reason as to why she was expected to appear. Ranaut’s Appeal could have been recorded the moment Siddiquee appeared on her behalf, and that her presence was not obligatory.
Siddiquee further stated, “I am making a categorical statement, I have lost faith in this Court.”
On these grounds, Siddiquee urged the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate to transfer the Defamation complaint to any other Magistrate.
Furthermore, Ranaut has filed a Counter-Complaint under Sections 383, 384, 387, 503 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code against Javed Akhtar.
On the other hand, Akhtar’s counsel, Jay Bhanushali, informed the Court that each time a new ground was filed to delay the case, the Court had followed the legal procedure.
The Court eventually adjourned the matter to November 15, 2021, so Akhtar can review and reply to the Application and Counter-complaint.
