Federal Supreme Court of Iraq gave its Legal Consent to the results of the Country’s Parliamentary Elections. While giving its Legal validation, the Top Court dismissed all Pleas filed by Pro-Iran Hashed al-Shaabi, who claimed foul play in the Elections.
Muqtada al-Sadr, an Iraqi nationalist and adherent of the Shia branch of Islam, won the parliamentary elections in October 2021 with a large share of seats. The Fatah Alliance which is backed by Irani Militia, lost the Elections and claimed fraud in the voting process.
The Counsel for the Fatah Alliance stated that the Alliance had approached the Top Court in early December, and sought ‘to have results annulled because of serious violations’ that took place during the Elections.
Earlier the Iraqi Electoral Commission and other International Institutions had given their validation to poll results, despite of which the Pro-Iran Militia complained for fraud. In regards with this, the Top Court of Iraq rejected the Alliance’s Plea and stated that it does not come under the Court’s Jurisdiction to cancel the poll results.
The Federal Supreme Court of Iraq’s Judge Jassem Mohamed Aboud on December 28, 2021 stated that it “rejects the requests of the Plaintiffs …not to ratify the final results of the election.”
The Head of the Fatah Alliance, Hadi al-Ameri stated that the Alliance accepted the Court’s decision “despite our deep belief that the electoral process was marred by fraud and manipulation” and that “the Court was subjected to great internal and external pressures.”
