The Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association (GHCAA) unanimously endorsed a resolution expressing support for lawyer Anik Kadri, who was called by the Police after filing Senior Advocate IH Syed’s Anticipatory Bail application.
“As an Association of advocates, it is our duty to question and challenge the abuse of police power and to safeguard the rights, privileges and interest of advocates,” the Resolution said.
The GHCAA has declared that it will intervene in any case brought by Advocate Kadri and that it will also file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking rules on the arrest and summoning of an advocate.
In addition, it was decided that if advocate Kadri was forced to appear in response to the summons, more than 300 GHCAA advocates would accompany him to the police station to protest police excesses and abuse of power.
Kadri has also filed a Petition seeking quashing of the notice issued under Section 41A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) summoning him.
“Tomorrow if I appear for a murder accused for anticipatory bail, they could summon me,” Yatin Oza said.
