In a first, a video of a renowned hairstylist spitting in the woman’s hair in place of water at an event in UP’s Muzaffarnagar went viral on social media.
The Uttar Pradesh’s Police, on January 06, registered an FIR against the celebrity stylist Jawed Habib for his incomprehensible act of spitting in the hair of one of the woman from the audiences at the event while giving her a haircut. The Fir has been lodged under sections 355 (Assault or Criminal force with intent to dishonour person, otherwise than on grave provocation) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke Breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code, and relevant sections of the Epidemic Act.
Facing a severe backlash from netizens, Habib posted an apology video online saying that often ‘Such things’ are done with a humorous intent at workshops adding that he was sincerely apologetic to those who felt hurt.
A tweet from the National Commission for Women, on January 06, read that it has taken cognizance of the incident and Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to the Uttar Pradesh DGP to immediately investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
Pooja Gupta, the Victim of this disturbing incident, in her interviews to various TV channels told that she attended the workshop to learn something but apparently, Habib was not interested in answering to her questions.
Later, Victim was called to the stage for teaching hair cutting where he allegedly misbehaved with her, spat in her hair twice demonstrating how spit could be used in place of water while cutting hair. After she got down from the stage, Habib’s assistant in an attempt to justify his act stated that he was just joking.
