Brussels:Tthe European Commission has issued a stringent directive targeting adult content giants Pornhub, Stripchat, and XVideos. These companies, labeled as very large online platforms under the Digital Services Act (DSA), are mandated to undertake risk assessment reports and implement measures to tackle systemic risks associated with their services.
Effective immediately, Pornhub and Stripchat must adhere to the DSA obligations by April 21st, while XVideos has until April 23rd to comply. Failure to meet these standards could result in fines of up to 6% of their global annual turnover.
The Commission emphasized that these specific obligations include submitting comprehensive risk assessment reports and implementing mitigation strategies to combat the proliferation of illegal and harmful content on their platforms. Moreover, enhanced transparency measures, particularly regarding advertisements, and providing researchers access to data are also required.
This move underscores the EU’s commitment to fostering a safer online environment and holding digital platforms accountable for their content. As these regulations take effect, it remains to be seen how these adult content giants will navigate the stringent compliance requirements laid out by the European Commission.
