The Special Court of Enforcement Directorate (ED) rejected the Bail Plea of MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira on December 7.
The Plea was dismissed by the Additional Sessions Judge cum Special Judge PMLA Sandeep Singh who observed that, “There are complicated questions of facts involved in this case as money laundering trail is still under investigation. There is possibility that the applicant being an influential person, he may try to interfere with the investigation if released on Bail at this stage. Even otherwise allegations against the applicant are very serious. Hence, keeping in the view the gravity of the offence it is not a fit case where the benefit of regular bail can be granted to the Bail applicant.”
Furthermore, the Court noted that there were no merit grounds in the Bail application and is dismissed.
The Orders further asserted that the applicant has submitted several documents showing his income and also that he had accumulated funds in the US for AAP. The huge amount of currency is reported to be concealed into the Applicant’s income.
The Bail Application filed impleaded that the Applicant was innocent and is victim is persecution and harassment. The applicant is in the Custody since November 18 despite the fact that he is 57 years old and he from the renowned family. The Applicant’s father was a Cabinet Minister and he himself has been a member of the Legislative Assembly and also the leader of the opposition. The Applicant is regularly visiting PGIMER as he suffering from prostate cancer.
The Application stated that the Applicant has showed his full cooperation as and when required. He had appeared before the ED for 11 times and also the manner of the investigation done by the ED is an absolute subversion of law for malafide consideration.
The Investigating Agency did not provide the reason for the Arrest of applicant in written as it always does.
