On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court ordered BJP MLA Vijender Gupta and Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot to look into the possibility of settling the defamation case that the latter had brought regarding claims of corruption in the purchase of buses for the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) [Kailash Gahlot vs. Vijender Gupta & Ors].
After the attorneys for Gupta and Gahlot agreed to examine the prospect of reaching a settlement, a Division Bench comprising Justices Rajiv Shakdher and Tara Vitasta Ganju referred the matter for further hearing in December.
Gahlot had filed an appeal with the court challenging a single judge’s decision to forbid Gupta from posting scandalous and defamatory material about him.
The dispute stems from claims made by Gupta that the procurement of about 1,000 low-floor buses for the DTC involved irregularities.
Justice Asha Menon denied Gahlot any relief in a temporary ruling issued in March.
Gupta’s MLA obligations for the opposition party would be prevented if the judge issued a gag order prohibiting him from talking or making remarks, the judge had noted.
