Delhi High Court granted bail to Devangana Kalita, Natasha Narwal who were members of the activist group ‘Pinjra Tod’and Jamia student Asif Iqbal Tanha.
They were arrested last year in May in their connection with the Communal Riots in northeast Delhi during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). They were arrested under the infringement of provisions of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The order was reserved by the division bench comprising of Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice Bhambhani.
According to Delhi police, Kalita, Narwal and Tanha conspired for high magnitude disruption in the capital city that would have led to disorderliness of control and disruption of law.
Members of Pinjra Tod mobilized many women in the northeast area of Delhi and transformed Madina Masjid into a protest site, as part of their conspiracy.
The day of the visit of the U.S. President was coordinated by them to perform inciting violence and created ‘chakka jam’ for international embarrassment.
In this case, State was represented by Additional Solicitor General SV Raju and Special Public Prosecutors Amit Mahajan, Amit Prasad, Rajat Nair.
