The Delhi High Court has declined to Prepone the hearing of a case related to an RTI request seeking information about Prime Minister Modi’s Graduation Degree. The court has scheduled the matter for hearing on October 13. A plea was filed by Delhi University to expedite the hearing, challenging the Central Information Commission’s 2016 directive to allow inspection of records.
Justice Subramonium Prasad dismissed the University’s request for an early hearing against the CIC’s order. The CIC had instructed the University to permit the examination of records related to students of the BA Course from the year 1978, which is when PM Modi is reported to have passed his Delhi University BA examination. The High Court had stayed the CIC’s order in January 2017.
The court issued a notice on the application on the previously fixed hearing date. The applicant had filed an RTI application seeking records of the 1978 BA examination results of DU students, including details such as roll numbers, names, marks, and results, The University refused to provide this information, citing third-party concerns.
Neeraj Kumar challenged the University’s decision, and the CIC subsequently directed the University to allow inspection of the records, considering the information to be available in the University’s private register, which is a public document. The University had challenged the CIC’s order in the Delhi High Court.
