The Delhi High Court ordered 731 “rogue websites” to stop illegally streaming the Ajay Devgn-starrer “Bhuj: The Delight of India”.
Justice Prathiba M. Singh issued the order in response to Star India’s copyright infringement lawsuit.
The movie, which came out last year, is currently available for streaming on Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms. According to Star, the movie is based on people who were involved in the 1971 India-Pakistan war.
After the representatives of the offending websites failed to appear in court despite being served with notice, the Court issued the permanent injunction. The court in its order states that:
“Insofar as the other Defendants who are Domain Name Registrars are concerned, they shall ensure that the impugned domain names are suspended, locked and status quo is maintained in respect of the same.”
“The same shall not be permitted to be transferred to any third party. The orders of blocking shall also stand confirmed permanently in respect of all the impugned domain names / websites,”
The Star Network filed the infringement suit against all the disputed domain names and websites previous year.
After that, the court had issued an interim order prohibiting approximately 40 websites from hosting or streaming the film.
However, the Court was later informed that the film is also being hosted by over 700 other websites.
The plea was dismissed by the court after the permanent injunction order was issued.
