The Delhi High Court directed the Centre to treat a PIL as representation seeking directions for the establishment of a State Animal Board in the National Capital for proper supervision, implementation of Animals’ Health and Public safety.
In absence of the Board, the Plea filed by the Animal Rights Activist Sangeeta Dogra argued that there was some misappropriation and mismanagement of funds made for Animals Birth Control and Anti-Rabies Vaccination programmes.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice D.N Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh pointed that despite several representations preferred already by the Petitioner, no reply was given by either the Department of Animal Husbandry or the Animal Welfare Board of India.
The Plea further sought incorporation of Municipal bodies over private NGOs for Animal Birth Control Anti-Rabies Vaccination Programmes.
However, the Plea mostly argued on the allocation of funds directed to Animal Welfare Organization, bypassing the Municipal Local Bodies.
