In the aftermath of the recent security breach in the Parliament, The Delhi Court has extended the police custody of four accused individuals by an additional 15 days in a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The decision was made by the Patiala House Court after the accused were presented in Court following the expiration of their initial seven-day police custody.
The Delhi Police, handling the investigation, had requested a 15-day custody remand for the accused—Sagar Sharma, Manoranjan D, Neelam Verma, and Amol Shinde. These individuals had been initially remanded to seven days of police custody on December 14. Co-accused Lalit Jha and Mahesh Kumawat, facing similar charges, are also currently under a seven-day police custody remand set to expire this week.
The security breach occurred on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack when two individuals, identified as Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, breached the security measures by entering the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during the Zero Hour session.
The duo, seen in social media images and videos, released yellow gas from canisters and shouted slogans before being subdued by Members of Parliament.
Additionally, two other accused individuals, Amol Shinde and Neelam Devi, were identified for spraying colored gas from similar canisters outside the Parliament premises, accompanied by the chant “tanashahi nahi chalegi”
The case has drawn significant attention due to the gravity of the security breach on a crucial parliamentary occasion.
