Subramanian Swamy, a Rajya Sabha member, appeared before the IV Additional District Sessions Court on Thursday as his signature was needed to file the Defamation suit against a vernacular daily for supposedly publishing disparaging remarks against the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD).
Another Petition of Rs 100 crore Defamation Case was filed against the daily last year, stated Subramanian Swamy. The case was filed against the Telegu Daily under Sections 153A and 29A of the Hate Speech Law for publishing an article in 2019 about the alleged presence of content relating to Christianity on the TTD official website.
The case will be filed as a Criminal case under Sections 153 and 295 of the Indian Penal Code for inciting hatred between communities, as well as a Civil case for publishing objectionable content.
Swamy is Known for his Advocacy of Hindu temple preservation and Legal battles to restore temple Rights. The problem stems from an article published in Andhra Jyoti in 2019 about the alleged presence of ‘Christian related content’ on the TTD’s official website, which later turned out to be a hoax.
The TTD had filed a Defamation suit against the daily for Infringing on the religious sentiments of millions of Hindu devotees around the world.
Subramanian Swamy later filed a Petition in support of a Verdict in favour of the TTD. Magistrate scheduled to continue hearing the Case on Friday.
