Ankit Das who is one of the 13 accused men in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case filed an application with a local Court stating that he has been undergoing treatment for lumbar disc prolapse for a long time in a Lucknow hospital. Therefore, he urged the Court to allow him to go for a checkup and the jail authorities to provide him with a surgical chair.

His request was backed by District government counsel SP Yadav. He also offered to bear the expenditure for the surgical chair.

The Court in response has directed the Jail administration to look into the petition and make a decision as per the jail manual.

Ankit Das, who is the nephew of the former Union Minister Akhilesh Das along with 12 others, is accused of killing 4 farmers and 1 journalist in the October 3 incident when a convoy of 3 SUVs including a Mahindra Thar owned by Union Minister Ajay Mishra ran over the farmers protesting at the Tikona crossing.
