Kollam Advocate Assault Case Sees Progress as Court Initiates Property Attachment Against Accused Police Sub-Inspector.
Court ruling has commanded the provisional confiscation of assets linked to a Sub-Inspector (SI) from the police force, who is one of the accused parties.
The implicated SI has been instructed to provide a security deposit of ₹25 lakh or present a compelling rationale for exempting him from such a requirement.
The court has taken this measure to secure the accused SI’s property on an interim basis. This move comes as a result of an application submitted by the lawyer in question, C Jayakumar, seeking redress and compensation for purported custodial abuse at the hands of officers associated with the Karunagappally Police Station.
The court’s rationale behind the attachment order lies in preventing the accused SI from disposing of his assets, which could potentially obstruct the execution of any future judgments or decrees against him.
Jayakumar’s allegations are centered around claims that the involved officials, including the SI, were actively engaged in hastening the sale of their properties and contemplating a change of residence beyond the court’s jurisdiction.
Furthermore, the lawyer accuses the Chief Inspector (CI) of colluding with three individuals to orchestrate a scenario that facilitated his arrest by the police. According to his narrative, while en route to Karunagappally Railway Station, the individuals intentionally obstructed his vehicle, leading to a disturbance. Subsequently, law enforcement arrived promptly, taking him into custody, subjecting him to alleged mistreatment, and eventually releasing him late into the night.
The court’s decision to attach the accused SI’s property arrives as a step toward ensuring accountability and preventing any potential evasion of legal responsibilities. This ongoing case serves as a reminder of the legal system’s commitment to upholding justice and addressing allegations of misconduct by those in positions of authority.
