India’s Sherpa to G20 and G7 Suresh Prabhu said that the demand to resume mining in Goa should be considered sympathetically.
Prabhu said this after meeting families of the people whose lives solely depend on mining.
Prabhu met the families of the miners who lost their jobs after the Supreme Court, in 2018, had quashed around 88 mining leases in Vasco town.
Prabhu said, “The situation of the people dependent on the mining industry is really bad.”
While speaking to the reporters, he said that mining involves two issues – the employment of people dependent on mining and the lives of mine owners.
He further said, “The mining issue has to be tackled in a sympathetic manner. We have to look into how to resolve the issue for the people dependent on the mining industry.”
