The Centre has initiated to work towards Cop26 targets, put forth by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Glasgow Conference, by setting up panels to create an action plan.
All the stakeholders across all the sectors – coal, steel, cement, transport, shipping, power, railways, civil aviation, urban development, and others were requested to set up an action plans to assist in achieving Cop26 goals in an inter-ministerial meeting.
However, the affect of the renewable energy rise on thermal power plants is still under scrutiny. The targets for achieving the 500GW of non – fossil fuel-based energy is by 2030.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy on 30 December, 2021 had held a committee for preparation of the action plan for the “Mission 500GW” which was also chaired by the Secretaries of the Ministry of Power and MNRE.
Both the Ministries are given the responsibility to report state-wise as well as year-wise share of solar, wind along with other renewable energy sources for achieving targets by 2030.
The Power Ministry in November last year launched a separate Group of officers to formulate a framework for policy to promote energy storage in power sector, days after the announcement of Cop26.
The sub groups related to Policy and Regulation, Financial and Taxation issues, Technology and Demand management have together had tabled a Draft Policy on energy storage which is under review.
A third committee created in December last year under the guidance of chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority will construct plans for thew requisite Inter – State Transmission System.
To administrate the Renewable Purchase Obligations another panel in a same under the guidance of chairmanship of secretaries of Power and MNRE was established last month.
