The Calcutta High Court on Thursday ordered for a Court-regulated Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the Cases of rape and murder that allegedly took place during after-poll violence in West Bengal. The Court ordered for the Case to be investigated by a Special Investigation Team.
A Five-Judge Bench of the Calcutta High Court said, “All Cases as per report of National Human Rights Commission Committee where allegations are about murder of person or crime against women regarding rape or attempt to rape shall be referred to Central Bureau of Investigation for investigation”.
“It shall be a Court-monitored investigation and any obstruction in the course of investigation by anyone shall be viewed seriously,” the Court added.
The Special Investigation Team, set up for the Court-monitored inquiry, includes three IPS officers — Suman Bala Sahoo, Soumen Mitra, and Ranvir Kumar.
The team’s functioning will be monitored by a retired Supreme Court Judge.
The High Court Bench earlier had ordered the Chairman of National Human Rights Commission to form an inquiry committee to investigate the alleged human rights violations during the “Post-Poll Violence”.
The Case will now be presented before a Division Bench for addressing other concerns in the National Human Rights Commission Committee Report and other proceedings.
