The Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court adjourned the hearing of the Goa Government’s appeal against Journalist Tarun Tejpal acquittal in an alleged 2013 rape case, till September 20.

In the case, Tejpal was allegedly accused of sexually assaulting his then colleague in a lift of a five-star hotel in Goa.

The matter is pending before the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.

The mode for hearing of the matter was online till now and recent hearing was first time that the matter was heard physically.

Tejpal requested before the High Court sought an in-camera hearing upon the Goa Government’s petition and sought its dismissal while raising preliminary objections on its maintainability.

Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Goa Government opposed Tejpal’s request of in-camera hearing stating the, “Country has the right to know how the institution dealt with the plea of the victim girl.”

Advocate Devidas Pangam, representing Tejpal sought for two weeks adjournment in the matter to file a fresh application before the Chief Justice.

Tejpal, the former Editor-in-Chief of the Tehelka magazine, was earlier acquitted by a jurisdictional Sessions Court on May 21, this year.

After the acquittal the Goa Government filed an appeal against the Judgment of the Sessions Court in the High Court.
