In a recent development, the Bar Council of Delhi has issued a notification stating that all advocates practicing in Delhi will now be required to apply for a new ID card. The move comes as part of the council’s efforts to update and streamline its records of practicing lawyers in the city.
Bar Council in its circular said, that it has been decided in the meeting held on April 06 that the new identity cards shall be made afresh and the advocates shall apply with the attested copy of their aadhar card, copy of enrolment certificate and the certificate of practice, where applicable.
It Reads, “Identity Cards shall be issued free of cost to those who apply within one month i.e. from 01.05.2023 to 31.05.2023,”.
As per the notification, all advocates in Delhi will need to submit an application for the new ID card along with the requisite documents, including their Bar Council registration certificate, proof of address, and a recent passport-sized photograph. The new ID cards will be issued with a unique identification number, which will be used to identify advocates in all official records.
The Bar Council has set a deadline of 30 days for advocates to submit their applications for the new ID cards. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in disciplinary action by the council.
The move has been welcomed by many advocates who see it as a positive step towards modernizing the legal profession in Delhi. The new ID cards are expected to help prevent impersonation and ensure that only authorized advocates are allowed to practice law in the city.
