The High Court of Allahabad adjourned the hearing on the plea made against the acquittal of the 32 people accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case, with the list including LK Advani along with Murli Manohar Joshi.
The court adjourned the hearing for 2 weeks on the demand of the petitioners for a little time to remove some defects found from their case file.
The matter was brought before the bench headed by Chief Justice Rakesh Srivastava.
Two residents of Ayodhya, Haji Mahmood Ahmad, and Syed Akhlaq Ahmad were the ones who filed the petition on the 8th January.
Their representative counsel is Mr. Zafaryab Jilani, an executive member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board as well as, the Babri Masjid Action Committee’s convener.
Jilani mentioned while filing for the said petition, that the two petitioners moved the court since CBI had not made any appeals against the judgment passed by the Supreme Court on September 30th 2020.
Both the Ayodhya residents claimed that they were witnesses present for the trial.
The trial judge had vehemently refused to accept into evidence any clippings from newspapers or videos since their originals could not be provided in court.
He also stated that the Central Bureau of Investigation couldn’t produce evidence proving that the listed accused had a common understanding with those ‘kar sevaks’ who were responsible for demolishing the historical religious structure.
The plea mentioned the petitioner’s appeal to the CBI court on its error of acquitting the accused despite the ample evidence present against them which is on record.
The petition also stated that “the trial judge didn’t appreciate the evidence of conspiracy in the right perspective.”
The lower court cleared all 32 of the ones mentioned on the accused list and some of them were extremely high-profile people such as L.K. Advani, the former Deputy Prime Minister, Kalyan Singh, the past Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti, both being the former Central Cabinet Ministers and Nritya Gopal Das, the President of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
The Babri Masjid was completely demolished by the kar sevaks mob on the 6th December in 1992, due to the belief held by the mob that the structure that had been built in the 16th century stood on Lord Ram’s birthplace.
In the month of November in 2019, a ruling given by the Supreme Court upon the land dispute of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case paved a path for constructing the Ram temple right at the site of contention.
