The Allahabad High Court has instructed the Superintendent of Police in Sultanpur to conduct a thorough investigation into allegations against a Station House Officer (SHO).
The allegations include misbehavior with certain women and the physical assault of an elderly man within the police station.
These directives were issued by a bench comprising Justice Sangeeta Chandra and Justice Narendra Kumar Johari in response to a writ petition submitted by the complainants, which included several women. They claimed that when they visited the police station to provide their statements, SHO Kurebhar from District Sultanpur treated them disrespectfully.
The petitioners were originally accused in an FIR under Sections 353, 504, 506, and 34 of the IPC. To challenge the FIR, they had previously approached the High Court, where their plea was granted protection. Subsequently, they visited the police station to record their statements.
According to their allegations, the SHO in question not only behaved improperly with the female petitioners, infringing upon their dignity, but also physically assaulted the father of the first petitioner. They asserted that they had recorded the incident using a camera and, consequently, sought action against the officer involved.
In light of these claims, the Court directed the Assistant Government Advocate (AGA) to obtain instructions from the opposing party, specifically the Superintendent of Police in Sultanpur. The SP has been tasked with conducting an inquiry into the allegations of misconduct and reviewing any available CCTV footage from the police station before providing guidance to the AGA.
The case has been scheduled for further proceedings on September 26, 2023.
