On Friday, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court requested details on the proposed preventative measures (to be implemented by the State Government) to address the dengue outbreak in Lucknow City.
The Lucknow Nagar Nagam has also been requested to submit an affidavit signed by the Nagar Ayukt detailing the steps it has taken to control mosquito population growth and to ensure sanitation in the city as a whole.
This directive was given by Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Saurabh Srivastava bench in response to a PIL petition over the medical facilities available by State Government Hospitals.
The Court is concerned about the enormous menace posed by various vector-borne illnesses such as dengue, the members of the bar voiced their worry over the proliferation of vector-borne illnesses in Lucknow during the matter’s hearing on Thursday.
They also informed the court about the “grim” scenario in the State-run hospitals.
In light of this, the state and the Lucknow Nagar Nigam’s legal counsel were directed to obtain detailed instructions on the actions being taken by the municipal corporation and the State authorities to provide adequate medical treatment, including the providing of additional beds in the State-run Hospitals and the availability of an adequate amount of blood platelets, which are typically needed in such treatment of dengue.
On Friday, the State Counsel was further requested to indicate any actions that may have been done by the Uttar Pradesh Prevention and Control of Malaria, Dengue, Kala Azar and any Vector Borne Disease Regulations, 2016, if they were necessary.
The National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control‘s specialists may have been consulted both for treating patients with vector-borne diseases and for vector-borne disease prevention, according to an affidavit the State was required to provide.
“Affidavit shall also indicate as to what measures are taken by the State authorities for educating the people of the dangers of the vector borne diseases and the preventive measures, which are to be taken,” the Court ordered as it posted the matter for further hearing on November 9, 2022.
