In a historical moment, nine new Supreme Court Judges took oath on Tuesday.
Also, first time in the history of India, three women Judges took oath together.
The Judges who took oath are-
- Justice A.S. Oka- Justice Abhay Sreeniwas Oka is uplifted from the post of CJ of Karnataka High Court and at SC he has a tenure till May 25, 2025.
- Justice Vikram Nath- Justice Vikram Nath is uplifted from the post of CJ of Gujarat High Court and he is in the line to become CJI.
- Justice J K Maheshwari- Justice J K Maheshwari is uplifted from the post of CJ of Sikkim High Court and at SC he has a tenure till June 29, 2026.
- Justice Hima Kohli- Justice Hima Kohli is uplifted from the post of CJ of Telangana High Court and at SC she has a tenure till September 2, 2024.
- Justice BV Nagarthna- Justice BV Nagarthna is uplifted from the Karnataka High Court and she is in the line to become CJI.
- Justice CT Ravikumar- Justice CT Ravikumar is uplifted from the Kerala High Court and at SC he has a tenure till January 6, 2025.
- Justice M.M. Sundresh- Justice MM Sundresh is uplifted from the Madras High Court and at SC he has a tenure till July 21, 2027.
- Justice Bela M Trivedi- Justice Bela M Trivedi is uplifted from the Gujarat High Court and at SC her tenure will be till June 10, 2025.
- P.S. Narasimha-P.S. Narasimha is directly uplifted from the bar. He is a senior advocate and has also served as the Additional Solicitor General from May 2014 to December 2018.
The working strength of Supreme Court rose to 33 as the new Judges took oath.
This was for the first time in the history 9 Judges took oath in one go.
Chief Justice of India NV Ramana administered the oath to the newly sworn-in Judges.
After this, the vacancy in the Apex Court came down to 1 from 10.
