The Co-ordination Committee of All District Courts Bar Associations of Delhi, has unanimously resolved to abstain from work on September 1, 2023. This decision comes as a response to the deeply concerning incidents of violence that have rocked the legal community in recent times.
The shocking and brutal attack on advocates in Hapur, followed by the tragic murder of an advocate in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, has shaken the foundations of our legal system. As advocates, we are devoted to upholding justice and the rule of law. Acts of violence against us not only endanger our safety but also undermine the core principles upon which our profession is built.
The decision to abstain from work is more than a mere pause in our daily activities. It is a powerful demonstration of our unity and solidarity with our fellow advocates who have suffered at the hands of such violence. By taking this collective stand, we demand Justice for the victims and hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
We firmly urge for the enactment of an Advocates Protection Act, ensuring a legal framework that safeguards the lives and security of advocates. Additionally, we call for swift and time-bound action against those responsible for these heinous crimes. It is imperative that justice is not delayed and that those who commit such acts face the consequences of their actions.
During this day of abstention, we encourage all members of our bar association to engage in peaceful protests, awareness campaigns, and any other initiatives that bring attention to this critical issue. Our unity will serve as a beacon of hope and a message to those who seek to disrupt the sanctity of our profession.
Let us use this moment of abstention to amplify our voices and make a resounding impact. Together, we can ensure that incidents like these are thoroughly investigated and justice is served. Our commitment to the values of justice, integrity, and solidarity will guide us in our pursuit of a safer environment for advocates across the nation.
