The Supreme Court of India agreed to hear the matter regarding the postponement of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) of 2022. The Exam is set to be held on February 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th.
The Supreme Court of India Bench comprising of Chief Justice of India N V Ramana and Justices A S Bopanna and Hima Kohli, will be hearing the Plea regarding the postponement of Gate 2022 on February 3, 2022.
Two Writ Petitions were filed requesting for urgent postponement of the Aptitude Test, due to the rise in number of Corona Virus cases. One Writ Petition is filed by the students who would be appearing for the test, the other one is a Public Interest Litigation (PIL).
The Petitioners have sought an Interim Stay on the test until the Supreme Court Bench gives a Judgment. Advocate Pallav Mongia who is representing the Petitioners stated, “This is about the GATE examination. Nine lakh students are appearing in the examination which is commencing on Saturday. The admit cards have been issued. Please list the matter.”
The Petitioners also mentioned that the Respondents vis-a-vis the Union of India and Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, have not issued any guidelines regarding the health assessment of students and execution of the test.
The Petitioners also pointed out that the Respondents have allowed asymptomatic students to appear for the exam, but have not mentioned how those asymptomatic students would be identified.
