The Delhi High Court on December 30, 2021 announced that it will be conducting virtual hearings of cases from January 3, 2022 due to the rise in number of cases of Coronavirus and the ‘yellow alert’ imposed in the National Capital.
The Delhi Court had issued a statement in which it stated that virtual system of hearing the cases will be continued till January 15, 2022, until things get a little less tiresome in regards with the rise on Covid-19 cases.
The Statement read, “There is, indubitably, a sudden spurt and spike in COVID-19 cases in the NCT of Delhi. Such rise is quite alarming and worrisome. The Government of NCT of Delhi has already issued ‘yellow alert’ in Delhi. It’s high time that this Court also takes all possible precautionary and preventive measures to thwart any possibility of resurgence of any wave of extreme nature.”
Chief Justice D N Patel noted, “I have also consulted with the esteemed members of the Administrative and General Supervision Committee of this Court. They all are also of the view that immediate steps are required to be taken to safeguard the health and well-being of all the stakeholders while also ensuring that the Justice delivery system remains functional.”
The Statement also pointed out that the President of Delhi High Court Bar Association and Chairman of Coordination Committee all District Court Bar Associations of Delhi and every other senior officer related to the Delhi Court, will show its full cooperation in regards with the virtual hearings.
