The Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud-led Supreme Court Collegium has suggested the names of Girish Kathpalia, Dharmesh Sharma, and Manoj Jain, who are judicial officers, to the Centre for appointment as judges of the Delhi High Court.
The Delhi High Court currently has 45 judges, including 10 women judges, out of its sanctioned strength of 60. If the three recommended names are accepted, the court’s strength will increase to 48, which is 12 judges short of its full strength.
The Collegium evaluated the material and consulted with supreme court judges who are familiar with the Delhi High Court’s affairs to assess the fitness and suitability of the recommended judicial officers for elevation.
Before recommending these names, the Collegium also considered the Judgment Evaluation Committee report, which graded their judgments as “outstanding,” and Intelligence Bureau reports, which stated that they have good personal and professional standing without any negative aspects regarding their integrity.
