Recently, the facility for recording the statements through video conferencing by the witnesses has been launched in the Rajasthan District Courts.

At the primary stage, the District Courts of Jaipur and Ganganagar has initiated this facility.

The rules for this facility were notified by Rajasthan High Court on August 2, 2021, after amending the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

V Sarvan, Special Secretary, Home Department, submitted before Court upon this matter that, “The witness would be freed from recording the statement by appearing in a Court after travelling several kilometers. Now, the witness will be able to go to the studio of the video conference remote point in the premises of the District Court and make statement through it.”

At first phase in progress of this facility, Sarvan said that, the District Court studios has been connected to the video conference remote points. Also, a coordinator in Court for managing this facility has been appointed.

Sarvan informed that, “Video conference’s hardware has been installed at 1242 Courts of the State. Microsoft team license and fiber internet connectivity has been also been provided.”

As for the second phase, Video conference remote points has been decided to be made in the Taluka Courts.

With the proper implementation of the rules by the High Court, the witness statement can now be recorded on time, saving government expenditure and time.

This facility will also result in completing the pending cases of Court with ease.

The Court in facilitation to the hearing of the cases will book the slot for video conference, and the witness will go to the video conference point in their area for testifying the statement.

The statement then be sent by mail and the original signed document will be sent in physical form along with the ID and document of the witness.
