22 FIRs lodged against protestors concerning Republic Day Farmer’s tractor rally

Almost 22 FIRs have been registered against farmers involved in the Republic Day farmer’s tractor rally protest at the capital.

The cases have been registered with reference to the violence that broke out during the protest.

Cases have been lodged against protestors whose identities have not yet been released to the public, one of them even includes the farmer who died in yesterday’s protest after his tractor rammed into a barricade and overturned.

Insider sources state that 100 police personnel were injured during the violent clash, there have also been reports of a young protestor having a bullet injury.

Notices were issued from the Delhi Police stating that the metro and traffic services would still remain affected as an aftermath of yesterday’s protest.

Specifically, Ghazipur Mandi, NH-9, and NH-24 have been closed, and people commuting to and from Delhi-Ghaziabad, were requested to take the Shahdara, Karkari Mor and DND points.

Additionally, the route from Minto Road to Connaught place was closed and the Delhi metro rail corporation stated that entry and exit to Lal Quila, and entry to Jama Masjid metro have been temporarily closed, with waiting time at Saket station increased as well.

Heavy security has been deployed to the centre point of yesterday’s protest- Red Fort.

The protest occurred as a backlash to three laws passed in Parliament last year namely the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
