Satya Pal Malik, the former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, voluntarily visited a police station in Delhi’s RK Puram on Saturday, a day after being summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a corruption case.
Reports that he was arrested were denied by the Delhi Police, who stated that Mr Malik had come to the station with his supporters of his own accord.
The visit was prompted by a meeting organized by Mr Malik in a nearby park, which was objected to by the police, who cited regulations against holding meetings without permission in residential areas.
The former governor and leaders of farmers’ groups and village bodies from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, who had come for the meeting, then proceeded to the police station. Mr Malik’s supporters raised slogans in his support while videos were posted on social media.
The development occurred a day after Mr Malik was summoned by the CBI to appear on April 28 as a witness in a case of alleged corruption by Reliance General Insurance.
Mr Malik cancelled a contract with the company, owned by industrialist Anil Ambani, in 2018 when he was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, citing fraud in the insurance scheme
