The National Judicial Data Grid will soon make every Supreme Court decisions handed down from the court’s founding in 1950 accessible, together with statistics on case pendency, disposition, and filing information.
According to a reliable source, the Supreme Court will now be accessible on the e-courts mobile application, which previously only had access to District Courts and High Courts.
The National Informatics Centre (NIC) has been working tirelessly over the past two weeks to finish the project after the Supreme Court e-committee gave the project the go-ahead.
“Over 75 lakh judgments of High Court are available on the data grid and it is time that Supreme Court too is included in the same. The project is at the cusp of completion and would be launched shortly,” the source added.
This decision marks the beginning of a substantial change in the resources that are available to students because, until now, only for-pay websites like Manupatra, SCC Online, and other legal portals could access rulings.
Indian Kanoon was a free medium up to this point, but the NJDG would have a far bigger audience.
The third phase of the e-courts project is now being worked on by the Supreme Court e-committee, which is led by Justice DY Chandrachud.
It is anticipated that this phase will be finished while Justice Chandrachud serves as Chief Justice of India.
