Following a new summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi will testify before the ED on July 26 rather than July 25 in relation to the National Herald money laundering ininvestigation.
The Congress leader was previously investigated by the central agency on July 21 for three hours amidst significant nationwide protests organized by party members. On the day of her subsequent deposition before the ED, the party will also hold protests akin to this one.
“They had initially scheduled a questioning session with (Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi) for Monday, July 25, but they are now claiming that their schedule conflicts with that day. They are requesting a fresh date, according to K C Venugopal, general secretary of the Congress.
On July 21, Sonia Gandhi arrived at the ED office with the assistance of her Z+ security cover at about 12 o’clock after leaving her home at 10 Janpath with Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi. Due to her poor condition, the 75-year-old Gandhi was permitted a medical professional to go with her. Her desire for a lawyer to go with her, however, was denied. Gandhi left the ED office after three hours, but the Congress asserted that there was nothing else the ED could have asked of her.
According to the ED, Sonia Gandhi asked for an early leave, nevertheless. Her questioning had previously been postponed while she recovered from COVID after being brought to the hospital.
