On December 25, 2021, a Court in Odisha put a restraint on the publication of a biography of the legendary Odia litterateur Byasa Kabi Fakir Mohan Senapati.
This restraint was put after the claim of the legendary litterateur’s granddaughter Minakshi Dutta that she was not being consulted for the memoir by the two writers. Presently, Dutta is the custodian of all the literary works of Fakir Mohan Senapati.
Minakshi Dutta had approached the Court in the month of August to put a permanent restraint on publication the biography ‘Mo Jibani’ which translates to ‘My Life’.
Dutta had signed an MoU with both the writers, Debi Prasanna Patnaik and Lalatendu Mohapatra but Alleged that they were not consulting her while taking decisions due to which she is not interested in continuing the project.
The court stated, “The Defendants are hereby directed to return all the manuscripts (both original and digitized versions) to Dutta within a month.”
This interim Order was issued by the Court after Dutta had filed a case claiming that Debi Prasanna Patnaik was in the process of publishing the autobiography without her consent.
