Greeva Garg –

The Gauhati High Court while hearing a petition seeking protection for doctors in the pandemic stated that mere installation of cameras in the hospitals is not enough, they are required to be connected with the nearest Police Station for urgent rescue in need.

The division bench comprising Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak directed the Assam Government to apprise the progress as per the orders of the Court within ten days.

The plea was filed in regard to the incident that occurred on June 1, where medical personnel were attacked amid Covid-19 vaccination.

The Assam police carried out the investigation in the matter and twenty-four people have already been arrested.

The bench has directed the State Government to comply with the directions of the Supreme Court of India, issued last year stating that, “State Government is directed to comply with the directions issued by the Hon’ble Apex Court in order to make available the footage to the Expert Committee or stepping up or ramping up the situation, wherever it is not installed. Wherever the CCTV cameras are installed, it is to be ascertained whether the same are functioning and in case it is functioning, CCTV footage periodically be placed before the Expert’s Committee/Expert Bodies to make observations periodically.”
