Delhi Sessions Court grants anticipatory bail to Jajbir Singh in two Red Fort violence cases

A Sessions Court in Delhi on 20^th July granted anticipatory bail to Jajbir Singh in two FIRS, 96 and 98 that were registered by the Delhi Police in connection with the violence that had transpired at the Red Fort on the Republic Day of this year.

Jajbir Singh had been accused of allegedly inciting violence and causing vandalism during the farmers protest on 26^th January 2021.

Earlier this month, the Court had granted interim protection from arrest to Jajbir Singh in FIR 96/2021.

A proclamation was also issued earlier against Singh in the concerned matter.

The Court adjourned the matter and posted it for further hearing on July 22.

Similarly, Deep Sidhu, named as a primary conspirator in the matter was also granted bail in April of this year by a Delhi Court.

Khempreet Singh, in connection with the matter, was also granted bail by the Court on the fact that Investigation Officer was not sure whether carrying a Talwar or Pharsa by Sikhs was an offence or his presence at the Red Fort amounted to a grave offense.

Likewise, the Court in the case of Lakha Sidhana, wanted by Delhi Police for his alleged involvement in the Red Fort violence, had extended his interim protection from arrest till July 20^th.

The Crime Branch (Central Delhi) of the Delhi Police had registered an FIR (96/2021) in connection with the violence that had transpired at the Red Fort on 26^th January of this year under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Arms Act, 1959 and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act 1984.

Another FIR (98/2021) was also registered on the basis of the complaint by Gunjan Kumar Srivastava, Superintendent Archaeologist who had stated that a mob had bulldozed into the Lahori gate and destroyed the electrical fittings of illuminated lights and after charging towards the Red Fort Rampart had forcefully hoisted a flag on the pole where on Independence day Prime Minister hoists the National Flag.

The present FIR was also registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code along with the Arms Act, the Prevention of Insults to National Honours Act, Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
