The Kasaragod Judicial First-Class Court to consider a petition filed by the police seeking permission to register a case against BJP Kerala State unit president K. Surendran in connection with allegations of bribery in the recent Kerala Assembly Elections.
The Left Democratic Front candidate, V. V. Ramesan has filed a complaint to the Kasaragod District Police Chief (DCP) seeking to register a case against Mr. Surendran alleging that he was paid INR 2.5 lakh and a phone to withdraw his nomination for the Manjeswaram segment. He also said that Sunil Naik, Suresh Naik and Ashok Shetty were among the members who offered him money to withdraw his nomination.
The DCP has handed over the complaint to the Badiyaduka police. Further, on basis of the new statement, the police are considering inclusion of provisions to enable them to register case without the Court’s permission. The local police to report preliminary findings to Range Inspector General and further proceedings to take course after seeking his permission.
In the 2021 elections, Mr. Sundara had filed nomination as a Bahujan Sawaj Party candidate but withdrew his nomination and joined the BJP.
