Pramod Sawant is the current Cheif Minister of Goa, following the demise of Manohar Parrikar. Pramod Sawant is widely regarded as an unassuming MLA from Sanquelim constituency in North Goa. He was elected twice in the region with no former political experience under his belt.
Pramod Pandurang Sawant was born into a modest family on 24 April 1973 (age 47 years; as in 2020) in Bicholim, a city in North Goa. His hometown is Sanquelim, a town in North Goa. Apart from being a politician, Mr. Sawant is also an Ayurveda practitioner by profession.He was serving as the speaker of the Goa assembly before being sworn in as Chief Minister, after the death of the sitting chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
UPBRINGING & EDUCATION –Sawant was born on 24 April 1973 to Pandurang and Padmini Sawant. He obtained a Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery degree from the Ganga Education Society’s Ayurvedic Medical College in Kolhapur and a postgraduate degree of Master of Social Work from the Tilak Maharashtra University at Pune.
A staunch supporter of the late Chief Minister of Goa, Manohar Parrikar, Sawant was elected as the Assembly speaker by Parrikar, despite never having held a position in the state cabinet. A doctor by profession and an RSS member, Sawant graduated from the Ganga Ayurvedic Medical College in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur district and has a Masters in Social Welfare from the Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth. He was chairman of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, an initiative set up by Parrikar.
POSITION HELD-
2007– Pramod Sawant won assembly elections during the bypolls in 2007 and became an MLA from North Goa constituency.
2012– He was elected as an MLA from Sanquelim constituency. He defeated Pratap Gauns of Congress Party with the margin of around 7000 votes.
2012– He became a member of Select Committee on – The Goa Succession, Special Notaries and Inventory Proceeding Bill, 2012. He served as the member of Committee on Privileges and Chairman of Estimates Committee till 2014. Also he was the chairman of Chairman, Budget Committee from 2012 to 2016.
2014– Member, Select Committee on–The Goa School Education (Amendment) Bill, 2014; Member, Committee on Petitions (2014-2016);
2016– Chairman, Select Committee on-The Goa Staff Selection Commission Bill, 2016.
2017 – He was re-elected from Sanquelim after defeating Dharmesh Saglani of INC. The winning margin was around 8000 votes. Later he became the Chairman of Business Advisory Committee and the Chairman of Rules Committee.
2017– He was elected as the Speaker of the Seventh Legislative Assembly of the State of Goa.
2019 – Pramod Sawant took the oath as the new chief minister of Goa on 19th March 2019. Sawant succeeds Manohar Parrikar who died on March 17th after battling pancreatic cancer for a year.

- Pramod Sawant is an Indian politician and the 13th CM of Goa. He is MLA from the Sanquelim constituency in North Goa and is a member of BJP. He is also an Ayurvedic doctor and farmer by profession.
- During Manohar Parrikar‘s last tenure, Pramod Sawant was elected, in March 2017, as the Speaker of the Goa State Assembly. He is the former chairman of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, which was set up by Manohar Parrikar to take up various infrastructure development works in the coastal state.
- His wife is the leader of Bharatiya Janta Party and current President of the Goa unit of the BJP Mahila Morcha.
