Justice Bala Krishna Behera began his career as an Advocate in 1950. He later served as a judge at the Orissha High Court. He passed away after a protracted illness in 2017.
BACKGROUND– Behera was born in the Balangir district of Odisha. He is survived by his wife, his 3 sons, and 5 daughters.

Bala Krishan Behera Enrolled as an Advocate in October, 1950. Appointed as Additional District and Sessions Judge on 14-2-1966 and as District and Sessions Judge on 25-7-66. He Served as Special Judge, Bhubaneswar from 29-11-68 to 1-2-1971 and Secretary to the Government of Orissa, Law Department from 1-2-1971 to 15-1-1974. Worked as District and Sessions Judge from 17-4-1974 to 29-6-1977. He Served as Presiding Officer, Industrial Tribunal from 6-7-77 to 3-4-78. He Served as Registrar of the Orissa High Court since 05/04/1978.
WALK OF LIFE- After completing his education, Mr. Behera enrolled as an Advocate in 1950. He joined Odisha Judicial Services in 1966 and served as the District and Sessions Judge of Balasore, Baripada, Koraput, and Cuttack. He served as a Special Judge, Bhubaneswar from 1966 -71.
He was then appointed as the Secretary of the Odisha Law Department from 1971-74. For a year in 1971, Behera served as the Presiding Officer of the Industrial Tribunal. Since 1978 he worked as Registrar of the Odisha High Court.
Behera was given the status of Permanent Judge of the Odisha High Court in 1981 and he served till his retirement in 1987. In 1993, Justice Behera was appointed to the one-man enquiry commission for the infamous Cuttack liquor tragedy.
