UPBRINGING & EDUCATION – He completed his schooling from ST. XAVIER’S SCHOOL while pursued law in university of Delhi. He did doctor of law from HONRIS CAUSA University of Orissa.
WALK OF LIFE – He began his career with Shardul S. SHROFF who later established Amarchand &Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff in Delhi, he then worked under D.P. Wadhwa who rose to become judge of supreme court and later under Soli Sorabjee who was attorney general. In 1991 -1992 he was acting as counsel to a judicial commission headed by Justice J.S. Verma for security lapses leading to the assassination of MR. Rajiv Gandhi.
He has played major role for introducing ALL INDIA BAR EXAMINATION a test for law graduates to be eligible to practice in India.
He has also appeared in number of landmarks case concerning the law arbitration in India including BALCO case while appearing as a lead counsel for number of Indian companies like ICC, also deposes an expert witness on Indian law in SIAC and international commercial arbitrations.
CAREER TIMELINE –
- In 1991 -1992 he was acting as counsel to a judicial commission headed by Justice J.S. Verma for security lapses leading to the assassination of MR. Rajiv Gandhi.
- In 1993 as a prosecuting counsel for the Central Bureau of investigation in the trial of person accused for series of blast in Bombay while he was the youngest to be designated as a senior advocate by the Supreme Court of India.
- In 1994-1995, he was appointed as a counsel to judicial commission to investigate about wrongful detentions in state of Assam.
- In 2001 he was appointed as a counsel under Justice K. Ventakatswamy to inquire about a sting operation conducted by new media against corruption in defense procurement
- In between 2005-2009, he was appointed as additional Solicitor General of India.
- In between 2009-2011, he was appointed as Solicitor General of India.
- He was also chairman of bar council of India while he resigned his post as a sign of protest of government decision to field a private lawyer Rohinton Fali Nariman in tele-communications case.
- In 2008, he was lead counsel in a wide range of matters for instance acted as a special prosecutor in case of Ajmal Kasab.
- In 2010-2011, he was lead counsel in the matter of Ashok Kumar Thakur v. Union of India, again a lead counsel for Government of India.
- In 2011, he was lead counsel at irregularities in allocation of 2G radio spectrum, acting as amicus curiae to the Supreme Court.
- In 2011, he presented a report on the realities of trafficking of children in India also in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case in Bachpan Bachao Andolan v. Union of India.
- In 2019, Mr Subramanium was elected as a Foundation Fellow of Somerville, the College’s highest recognition for philanthropy.
