BACKGROUND – Byrathi Basavaraj is an Indian politician who was the Minister of State for Urban (excluding Bengaluru) Development of Karnataka 2020 to 2021. He was elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Krishnarajapuram in the 2013 and 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election as a member of the Indian National Congress. Byrathi Basavaraj took oath as Urban Development Minister in the presence of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai at Raj Bhavan, Bengaluru on August 4, 2021.

Traffic constable, Bheemappa Lamani Naik, accused the MLA of abusing and assaulting him during a traffic jam on Banaswadi main road.
The Karnataka Lokayukta registered a complaint against Byrathi Basavaraj and five others for alleged dereliction of duty. The Rupees 842 crores allocated to the KRIDL has not been utilized for the purpose of improving infrastructure says the complaint.
